Iga Swiatek wins 2022 Roland Garros over Coco Gauff

Iga Swiatek did what many expected her to by defeating Coco Gauff in the 2022 Roland Garros final 6-1 6-3 to win her 2nd Grand Slam title.

The match went largely as expected a slightly erratic Gauff showed up losing her first service game. She simply faced a superior player that was here before and knew what she needed to do. The matchup isn't ideal for Gauff either as Swiatek has ways to counter what the American does well.

She never let up after taking that initial break finishing off the opening set with 6-1. Gauff tried to be a bit more aggressive at the start of the 2nd set and briefly it worked as she took a 2-0 lead. It seemed like we would get a proper final after all but Swiatek quickly pulled it back to 2-2.

She then took a 3-2 lead simply by solving problems on the court. Mats Wilander called her an excellent problem-solver and that's something that Gauff still needs to learn. Swiatek kept up the pressure finishing it off with 6-3 in the 2nd set to win her 2nd Grand Slam trophy and her 2nd Roland Garros.
