Iga Swiatek will enter the 2023 Miami Open as the top seed and the Polish player is hoping to retain her title after winning the competition in 2022.

Swiatek followed up her triumph at Indian Wells with a win in Miami in 2022 as she became the youngest player to win the Sunshine Double in a single season last year.

In last season's Miami Open Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-0 in the final. The Polish star then went on to win the French Open and US Open later in the 2022 season.

As the current title holder, Swiatek enters the 2023 Miami Open as one of the pre-tournament favourites and she will be desperate to bounce back after losing to Elena Rybakina in the Indian Open semi-final.

21-year-old Swiatek received a bye for the first round and will face either Katerina Siniakova or Claire Liu in the second round.

Up next for Swiatek could be either Martina Trevisan, Danka Kovinic or Nao Hibino. The likely opponent would be 25th seed Trevisan, who Swiatek has played four times and beaten on three occasions.

24th seed Jelena Ostapenko could then await Swiatek in the fourth round before a potential quarter-final clash against Rybakina. Having beaten Swiatek at Indian Wells earlier this month, the possible quarter-final could prove tough for the WTA number one.

US players Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are on the alternative side of the Miami Open draw and could encounter Swiatek in the semi-final clash.

If Swiatek can navigate one of the home players, then a possible final could come against second seed Aryna Sabalenka. Belarusian Sabalenka reached the final of Indian Wells and has lost four of six matches against Swiatek, including at the 2022 US Open semi-final.
