Iga Swiatek produced a dominant opening-round win at the 2022 Roland Garros against Lesia Tsurenko and extended her 29-match winning streak in the process.

World number one Swiatek wasted no time in booking her place in the second round of the Roland Garros Grand Slam. The Polish player cruised to a straight sets win over Tsurenko - securing a 6-2, 6-0 victory over her Ukrainian opponent in Paris.

The result means that Swiatek is now unbeaten since a round of 16 loss to Jelena Ostapenko at the Dubai Tennis Championships in February. After this rare loss, the 20-year-old has raced to the top of the WTA Rankings with 29 consecutive wins.

During this streak, the Polish player has defeated some of the world's best, including Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur, and Naomi Osaka. In addition, Swiatek won five consecutive titles ahead of the Roland Garros, including wins at Indian Wells, the Miami Open, and the Italian Open.

The young WTA star is now just nine wins away from matching Venus Williams' all-time record of successive WTA wins, standing at 35. However, when asked about her current succession of victories, Swiatek responded by stating that she was aware of the stats but was certainly not going to get carried away by them.

"I just want to keep going. I'm aware that someday my streak may stop. Basically, I'm just working every day to be focused on my tennis, not on stats or numbers."
"Just playing tennis and focusing on my game and being in a bubble. That's going to help me be consistent. That's what I've been doing the past weeks and I'm going to continue doing that here."

Swiatek is aiming to secure her second career Roland Garros title after winning the Grand Slam even for the first time in 2020. She was unable to repeat her triumph at the 2021 edition after losing to Maria Sakkari in straight sets in the quarter-final.
