After saving the United States in their first tie against Poland, Coco Gauff couldn't do the same also against Czech Republic that proved to be too good.
In their first tie at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, the United States took on Poland and needed to win the doubles match in order to win the tie. Coco Gauff, who travelled to Glasgow for 23 hours after her WTA Finals participation, jumped in and alongside Caty McNally secured the needed win.
Against the Czech Republic, the story line was very similar for the 18-years-old American. After Danielle Collins lost in two sets to Marketa Vondrousova, she needed a victory in order to keep her country in a fight for the semifinal spot.
In the second singles match, Gauff took on a player she has quite a lot in common with. She played against Katerina Siniakova, who is current doubles world no. 1 in the WTA Rankings. Only a few weeks ago, it was the teenager who was the highest ranked woman in doubles.
In the first set, both players traded a few breaks before it initially reached a tie-break. Siniakova proved to be a better player as she won it 7-1 and got a needed advantage.
The young American struggled to find her rhythm in the second set as she committed 19 unforced errors and after an hour and 23 minutes lost 6-7(1), 1-6. Therefore, the United States will certainly lose to Czech Republic as they are down 0-2 before doubles match and it's sure who will be the last 2022 Billie Jean King Cup semifinalist.
