Gauff Starts Another Winning Streak On US Soil With Crushing Victory In Miami

Coco Gauff had early issues against Oceane Dodin at the 2024 Miami Open, but she handled it well and still won in two sets.

Many expect the American to do well at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, but she hasn't done that well at the event so far. The American grew up in Florida and knows these courts well, but they still lost early a few times, including last year.

The way this match started, some doubts crept up again. The 20-year-old couldn't really create too much pressure early, and she got broken at 2-2. Dodin took a 3-2 and then made it 4-2.

She had some break points to further extend the lead, but Gauff saved them, and that turned around the whole match. She broke back and then broke her opponent once more to win the opening set 6-4.

That 4-0 run would turn into a 7-0 run with an impressive run in the second set, as Gauff was completely dominating the matchup at that point. The French player has a good attacking game, which she used quite well in the early goings of the match.

It was quite similar to how Clara Burel troubled Gauff at the Indian Wells Open the previous week. Much like that match, Dodin would eventually start to pile up errors as Gauff found better ways to counter her opponent.

These errors would prove her undoing, especially as she couldn't create much pressure with the serve either. The bleeding didn't stop at 3-0 because Gauff broke her opponent once more to take a 5-0 lead. She then closed it out with a bagel for the final score of 6-4, 6-0.

It was an impressive turnaround from the American, who finished the match on a 10-0 run after trailing 2-4 in the first set. Once again, she's only one match away from a spectacle in the next round as she will face the winner of the match between Naomi Osaka and Caroline Garcia.
