Coco Gauff has had plenty of reason to celebrate her on-court achievements recently, and the 19-year-old is already thinking ahead to how she could mark a potential US Open victory.
After a tricky first-round win across three sets against the experienced Laura Siegemund, Gauff regathered her focus and cruised past fellow teenager Mirra Andreeva in the second round with a straight-sets victory. Next up for Gauff is Elise Mertens, and the world number six will be hopeful of progressing further to live up to her pre-tournament status as the favourite.
A strong run at the US Open would cap a fine recent spell for Gauff, who recently won her biggest title to date - the Cincinnati Masters. After her final win over Karolina Muchova in Cincinnati, Gauff showed off some of her fancy footwork post-match when she spontaneously broke into a Milly Rock dance, which the 19-year-old said she pulled off just for fun.
"I don't know why I did that. I just was like walking back, and I was like, I don't know, I want to do something funny so I decided to do that."
In her post-match press conference after beating Andreeva, Gauff was asked about her favourite dance in light of her moves in Cincinnati. The world number six replied that she has a few ideas up her sleeve if she goes all the way at the US Open, but she hinted that the Milly Rock might make another appearance, especially as New York is the home of the famous dance move.
"Then when I won in Cincinnati I was trying to think of another dance to do, but all the other ones just seem so outdated. I wasn't going to pull out a Whip/Nae Nae, like, no. So the Milly came again. Hopefully if I win here I'll definitely pull it out again."
