Gauff Crushes Yet Another Opponent To Reach Second Week At 2024 Roland Garros

Coco Gauff continued her 2024 Roland Garros run with a solid showing against Dayana Yastremska.

The way Yastremska plays tennis shows she doesn't really doubt herself. She goes for the winners often and lives with the result. This is pretty similar to other players like Jelena Ostapenko, so generally, her matches are quite snappy.

This match was like that as well, as fans in Paris rarely saw any long rallies. The Ukrainian approached it aggressively, wanting to be the one who determined the outcomes of the points, but it didn't go as well in the opening set.

The 20-year-old American barely did anything in the first set except running, and yet she won it 6-2 because Yastremska had 17 unforced errors. She only had 7 winners, which is not a good ratio.

Still, Gauff's stat line wasn't much better, with 2 winners and 7 unforced errors. The second set opened with the 2023 US Open champion breaking Yastremska early, as the Ukrainian still couldn't find the court.

She then suddenly started finding it and turned it around, from 0-1 to 2-1. It was only a short-lived surge, though, as Gauff would break once more to take a 3-2 lead. The problem for Yastremska would always be consistency.

When she was on, she was amazing, but that only lasted a few minutes, and that's not good enough to beat world no. 3. She needed something more but couldn't find it, so Gauff was able to cruise relatively easily, winning the match 6-2, 6-4 to move into the fourth round of the 2024 French Open.
