Gauff Crushes Compatriot Parks At Australian Open Winning Her Eighth Consecutive Match

Coco Gauff is having the same exact start of the new season as last year, winning her first eight matches and reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open.

The American has been almost flawless this season. She bested all of her opponents without losing a set, except for Elina Svitolina in the ASB Classic final, but she started dominating once again in Melbourne.

The 19-year-old thrashed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova before beating also Caroline Dolehide, and in the third round, she faced yet another fellow compatriot, Alycia Parks.

Parks is a talented player, who can trouble any opponent, and she showed it in the previous round against Leylah Ferndandez, who she beat in two sets while hitting 13 aces and 30 winners overall.

But that was far from being the case against Gauff. Parks managed to hit only two aces, while making eight double faults, and the same applied also to winners and unforced errors, pushing the ball past her opponent 11 times, while missing the court without any pressure 34 times.

Gauff herself didn't need to hit almost any winners in the match, as she basically returned the ball to the other side of the court, where Parks self-destroyed. The 19-year-old had four winners, out of which, three were aces.

In the first set of the match, Gauff didn't allow her opponent to win a single set, winning it 6-0, and after both held their serve in the second set and Parks led 2-1, the 2023 US Open champion started dominating again, winning five consecutive games to win the match 6-0, 6-2.

By reaching the fourth round, Gauff equalled her career best in Melbourne, as she reached the fourth round twice before. In the next round, she'll await the winner of the match between Magdalena Frech and Anastasia Zakharova.
