It has been a difficult season so far for the US Open champion Emma Raducanu, but she will try to find some positive form on grass before Wimbledon, including at this year's Nottingham Open.
A quarterfinal run at the Stuttgart Open in April is Raducanu's best result this season. She won two consecutive matches in Germany, before falling to the world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
Raducanu's latest setback was a second round loss at the French Open to Aliaksandra Sasnovich. After taking the opening set, the Briton only managed two more games in the final sets of the contest.
However, Raducanu will be hopeful of her fortunes changing on grass. The memories of her unexpected run to the fourth round at Wimbledon last year may be helpful.
In addition, receiving strong home support could also be beneficial to the 19-year-old. She is undoubtedly a little low on confidence right now, meaning receiving a lift from the crowd might be exactly what she needs.
Raducanu made her happiness to play at Nottingham clear in a statement, which included mentioning the opportunity to play in front of British crowds.
"I’m excited to return to Nottingham and it will be a great opportunity to play in front of British crowds for the first time this year. This event will always be special to me as I played my first tournament on the WTA Tour here last June and I can’t wait to go back.”
This is not the only grass-court event that Raducanu plans to play before Wimbledon. She is also on the entry list for the Birmingham Classic, alongside players such as Simona Halep and Barbora Krejcikova.
It will be fascinating to observe whether Raducanu's fortunes improve during the grass-court season. Despite her young age, her immense talent means an improvement in form will surely arrive at some point.
