Emma Raducanu has given an update about her recent injury, and it seems likely that the Briton will be able to compete on home soil at Wimbledon.
The 2021 US Open champion picked up the injury at the Nottingham Open two days ago. She was facing Viktorija Golubic, who reached the quarterfinal at Wimbledon last year after an impressive run.
Unfortunately, Raducanu felt a physical issue in the match's first game. She played for a few more games to see if the problem would disappear, but eventually, the 19-year-old retired at 3-4 down.
Raducanu's considerable number of fans have been worried since that moment. She seemed in a lot of pain at the time, meaning many feared that her participation at SW19 this year could be in doubt.
However, a positive update from Raducanu has alleviated many of those worries. She revealed that the problem was a side strain, and although the US Open winner will not play in Birmingham, she expects to be back on the court soon to play the rest of the grass-court season.
"It was disappointing to go out this week with a side injury and unfortunately I will no longer be able to play in Birmingham. I'm looking forward to being back on the match court soon though to enjoy the rest of the grass season."
There is a tournament in Eastbourne the week before Wimbledon begins. It is unclear whether Raducanu will play at that event as preparation for the third Grand Slam of the season. The Briton may be cautious and not play to be fit for Wimbledon.
Understandably, Raducanu will prioritize being fit for her home Grand Slam. The biggest grass-court tournament in the world would certainly be better if she were involved. Hopefully, the injury will not be more serious than initially thought.
