Danielle Collins vs Maria Sakkari: 2024 Charleston Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Danielle Collins is playing tremendous tennis right now, and she's got a chance to make yet another final, even though beating Maria Sakkari will not be easy,

The Greek player found some good tennis in recent weeks and now hopes to make yet another final after making the Indian Wells final not too long ago. She had a rough time in 2023, having considered stopping altogether, so it's great to see her back to playing good tennis.

Another player who considered stopping but will really stop playing after this year is Collins, but like Sakkari, she's having a great 2024 so far. She just won her career's biggest trophy at the Miami Open and is now one match away from making back-to-back finals.

She's on an eleven-match match winning streak, and she will want to keep it going against Sakkari at the 2024 Charleston Open.

Head-to-head:

Sakkari and Collins played a few times so far, and the Greek player leads 2-1. Two of those matches were played a while ago, while the most recent was played last year. Collins was able to win that one easily in two sets, and that's not a huge surprise.

It came at a time when Sakkari was playing badly, which isn't the case right now. Sakkari is looking really confident in Charleston, but so is Collins, who bested better players en route to the semi-final.

Danielle Collins Maria Sakkari

22 Rank 7
30 Age 28
23-7 2024 W/L 15-6
249-146 Career W/L 458-294

Prediction:

This is a really complicated matchup, but I tend to lean towards Collins because she's just been so amazing. You can't ignore it, and when a player is this in the zone, I don't really see a reason not to trust them. I'll just stick with her as long as she's winning.

Prediction:
Danielle Collins to win in three sets.
