Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur: 2024 Berlin Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Coco Gauff started off her grass season with an impressive win at the 2024 Berlin Open, and she will want to keep it going against two-time Wimbledon runner-up, Ons Jabeur.

The Tunisian is one of the best grass players on the WTA Tour, having played in two Wimbledon finals in the past few years. She just plays amazing tennis on the green surface, which allows her to use her tricks in many ways, but she's yet to really put a stamp on it.

Two finals are great, but failing to win a trophy is a painful memory for her, especially in last year's final, in which she was heavily favored. The 20-year-old American, on the other hand, hasn't had the same type of success on grass so far, but she can certainly play well on the surface.

Her first match on grass this year confirmed how strong she can be on the surface. It was a wonderful performance, and now the two will play for a semi-final spot in the German capital.

The two have played several times, including recently at Roland Garros. It was a high-stakes match where Jabeur gave Gauff all sorts of problems but then ran out of steam to the end, losing the match.

Overall, the matchup has favored Gauff more, who won five of the seven matches they played. The most recent match the Tunisian player won was played on grass in Berlin two years ago.

It was the only match they played on grass, and it was a fairly easy win for Jabeur. The Tunisian is the better grass player, but this matchup doesn't work well for her.

Gauff has all the tools to win this match, and if she finds a good serving day as she did against Ekaterina Alexandrova, she'll be favored to win.

Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in two sets.
