Coco Gauff vs Oceane Dodin: 2024 Miami Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Coco Gauff will take on Oceane Dodin for a spot in the fourth round of the 2024 Miami Open.

Gauff hasn't been particularly great at the Miami Open in the past. This is a bit counterintuitive because she's basically at home in Miami and knows the courts and conditions really well. You would kind of expect her to do really well, but she hasn't.

Her best result was a third round in 2022, and she can certainly do much better than that. To get a new personal best at the Miami Open, the American player will have to take on Dodin, an interesting player who was very lucky with the draw.

Dodin initially played in the qualifiers, losing in the second round. She would enter the main draw as a lucky loser instead of Marta Kostyuk, getting to play in the second round immediately, as the Ukrainian player had a first-round bye.

She would use that to her advantage and outplay Arantxa Rus to find herself in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament. Let's see if she can keep it going.

Head-to-head:

Gauff and Dodin have never played before, but it's pretty safe to say that the American is the better player. Miami plays a bit faster than Indian Wells does, and I think that suits her a bit more.

She can be deadly with her own game, which she showed well against Nadia Podoroska. It also gives her opponents less time to set up their shots, which bothered Gauff a lot in Indian Wells.

Prediction:

Dodin has played well so far at the Miami Open, but I don't think she has the necessary level to do anything here. Gauff is the better player, and she will show it with a straight sets win.

Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in two sets.
