Coco Gauff will enter the clay court season without a coach and the 19-year-old is in no rush to find a replacement.
Gauff and former coach Diego Moyano recently split in a good naturued agreement after a year of working together. The decision was made after the Miami Open, where the US player struggled and was eliminated in the round of 32 following a three-set loss against Anastasia Potapova.
However, the sudden split now leaves Gauff without a coach for the foreseeable future. Speaking ahead of her next competition, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Gauff said the decision to break wasn't her choice and she also thanked Moyano for his support of the past year.
"It wasn't really my decision. He was having some personal things going on, so he had to step down. So I would say it was something that I think both of us didn't want to happen, because we did have such a good time together. But I understand that, and I wish him nothing but the best. I know that he's always a person that if I need to call I'll pick up the phone, and I had a great year with him."
Rather than rushing to announce a new replacement coach ahead of the European clay court season, Gauff also explained that she is going to take her time with her next appointment. The 19-year-old wanted to bring in someone new after Miami, but she was eventually left with little choice other than to proceed without a coach.
"I had the goal of maybe getting a coach before the clay season, but after Miami is when I found out from Diego, so I didn't have that much time to decide. Now I'm on the fence, of more so just staying with the situation that I have now instead of introducing someone new. But we'll see."
