Caroline Wozniacki will keep playing tennis in 2024 with a specific plan and herself as a coach, according to her father, Piotr.
Wozniacki retired at the Australian Open a few years ago, because it's the only Grand Slam she's ever won. A few years later, the former world number one shocked the world by announcing an imminent comeback to tennis ahead of the 2023 US Open swing.
Just weeks after that, we saw Wozniacki compete on the tennis courts, and it went pretty well. She bested Petra Kvitova at the US Open, which was a notable win and gave Coco Gauff plenty of problems as well.
She didn't play after that event but made a return recently in Auckland ahead of the Australian Open. The match in Auckland didn't go her way, but Wozniacki is set to return to where she retired, and it will be quite exciting.
The Grand Slams and the Olympics will be her main focus this year, according to her father, Piotr, who spoke with Ekstra Bladet, revealing that the Danish player made a bold decision to skip the WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha (Qatar Open) and the Dubai Championships.
"We can of course discuss back and forth whether it is good or bad. But Caroline has made a decision that she will not play as many tournaments this year."
"She knows what she has to do this year, and she has set very specific goals. She has a goal of playing in the four Grand Slams and the Olympics. And her goals are the most important."
Her father has been part of her tennis journey since the beginning, and while he still helps from time to time, Wozniacki largely coaches herself now, and it was the Dane who made a decision to return in Indian Wells.
"Today she is not just a tennis player mentally and in terms of experience. She is also a kind of coach for herself. I support her of course. I analyze her game, look at statistics and analyze her opponents."
"But she knows best what to do and what is good for her. She knows how long she has to train and what things she has to focus on. She has almost become a team in herself."
