Caroline Wozniacki hasn't played that well this year, but she's playing really well in Indian Wells, but good friend, Angelique Kerber, will now stand in her way.

This is truly a matchup that could have been played 7 years ago as a final of any Grand Slam tournament. Yet, here we are in 2024 and this matchup is the fourth round of the Indian Wells Open.

One of these players will play in the quarter-final, which is a testament to how well they played at this WTA 1000 event. Wozniacki has taken down a couple of solid players so far at the event, which has improved her play thanks to new-found confidence.

The start of the year was quite shaky, and it's the same for Kerber. She looked out of sorts in most of the matches she played earlier this year but looked pretty good this week.

Head-to-head:

Obviously, as veterans of the sport, they've been around for a long time, and we've seen this matchup a lot of times. They played 15 matches across all competitions, and Kerber actually leads 8-7.

The last of their meeting happened back in 2018, and the German won it in two sets. Only one of those was played in Indian Wells, and it was a match player 11 years ago, which Wozniacki won in three sets.

We can't really take much from these matches as things are quite different right now, but it's pretty clear that there is very little separating them.

Caroline Wozniacki Angelique Kerber
7 H2H 8
204 Rank 607
33 Age 36
4-3 2024 W/L 4-6
643-249 Career W/L 677-369

Prediction:

To get an accurate idea of what might happen here, we must look at their recent matches. Both bested some good players and looked about equal, but the Dane spent a bit more time on her comeback journey, which may favour her here.

Prediction: Caroline Wozniacki to win in three sets.
