Aryna Sabalenka has never beaten Dayana Yastremska in her career, and she will try to change that at the 2024 Italian Open.

The Belarusian quickly forgot her disappointment from the Madrid Open by starting the Italian Open with a win. The match itself was a complicated one because she faced Katie Volynets, a very tricky player who certainly gave her plenty of problems.

The American won the first set, but Sabalenka later found her stroke and won the match in three sets. It was not her ideal match, but she won and will now face a player she has never beaten before.

Yastremska is a solid player who actually bested Sabalenka in all three of their previous matches, and the Ukrainian will try to do it once again at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.

Head-to-head:

These matches happened a while ago, so we haven't seen a recent match between them. The most recent match between them was played in 2020. Sabalenka improved tremendously since then, becoming one of the best players in the world.

Yastremska became a good player as well, as the Australian Open run earlier this year shows, but she's not on the level of her opponent. Her best is not as good, and she's certainly not as consistent as Sabalenka.

Prediction:

I think this is a matchup that Sabalenka really should win. The problem for Yastremska isn't that she can't beat Sabalenka; it's more about what it would take for her to beat her opponent.

The Ukrainian would have to be really consistent for a long time, and against the world no. 2 that may just not be very possible at the moment.

Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in two sets.
