Bianca Andreescu will contest her second career grass final on Sunday in Den Bosch after beating Dalma Galfi in the semi-final of the 2024 Libema Open.
The Hungarian has been a fairly solid player on grass for a while, with notable performances in the past few years. She continued that this week at the Libema Open, winning a couple of matches to advance to the semi-final.
In the semi-final, she had to face a very tough challenge in Andreescu, who was herself playing really well. The Canadian downed a soaring Naomi Osaka in the previous round and continued that strong play in this match.
Galfi also had some physical issues, for which she took a medical timeout in the second set, but she would still finish the match standing, with the final score being 6-4, 6-2.
It was a solid battle between the players, as both didn't really cruise through their service games. We saw plenty of rallies, but in most of those rallies, Andreescu came out on top.
It's not a huge surprise because she's a really good hitter. Outhitting Serena Williams in the US Open final is no small feat, so she's clearly capable of it. She wasn't as spectacular in this match, but she did more than enough to win this match comfortably.
The second set was even easier for the Canadian as she was fully in rhythm and totally dominating on her own serve. On return, Andreescu did most of her damage on the second serve of Galfi, which was more than enough.
She broke once early and then added another one for the 5-1 lead, after which she closed it out to win 6-4, 6-2. This will be the second career final for Andreescu on grass after Bad Homburg in 2022. That final wasn't finished off with a trophy for her, as Caroline Garcia proved better in the final, winning 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4.
