Ajla Tomljanovic out for few months after knee procedure

Former junior world number 4 and Wimbledon quarter-finalist Ajla Tomljanovic has announced that she will be out for a few months due to a knee procedure.

Tomljanovic has carved out a solid career for herself. As a very talented junior, she was expected to do really well on the WTA Tour, and while she didn’t do as well as some might have thought she would, she became a solid player with some notable achievements.

Unfortunately, she won’t be playing tennis for a while as she underwent a knee procedure. The Australian took to social media to explain what had happened, as fans were worried since she withdrew from the 2023 Australian Open, citing a knee issue.

It was an abrupt withdrawal, and that’s rarely good news. According to Tomljanovic, however, the procedure on the knee is relatively minor, so she, hopefully, won’t be out for a long time, but it will still take her a couple of months to get back to playing shape.

"This morning I had a minor procedure done on my knee that went very well. Sadly I won’t be around for the next few months. But I’m happy I did the necessary steps to get healthy."

"Great things take time and rehab starts very soon. I can’t wait to get back out there. Appreciate all your sweet messages and words of support, doesn’t go unnoticed."

A knee procedure is never ideal for a tennis player because the knee is a very sensitive spot that can flare up at any time. It has ruined many careers in the past, even though Tomljanovic seems optimistic that she won’t have any issues coming back.

Undergoing surgery at the start of the season, she could likely return at the start of the clay-court part of the season. With some luck and swift recovery, the Australian might return even sooner.
