The 24th edition of the Dubai Championships promises to be as riveting as it was 12 months ago, following the release of the entry list.
The 2024 Dubai Championships will be a standalone WTA 1000 tournament, having shared hosting rights for this category with its sister tournament in the Middle East, the Qatar Open. It will run from February 18th to 24th at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.
So, tennis players competing in this region can rack up a maximum of 2,000 points from playing the two events. The field will be at full strength with each member of the world's Top 10 signing up to play, including the new breakout star Qinwen Zheng.
The top seed will be Iga Swiatek, who has unfinished business in this tournament after losing to Barbora Krejcikova in last year's final. The Czech is also a confirmed participant in retaining her crown, but the odds are certainly stacked against her.
Each member of the world's top five will be present. Outside Swiatek, the likes of Aryna Sabelnka, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Jessica Pegula will all assemble in the United Arab Emirates. Sixth seed Ons Jabeur will be the main star attraction as she'll be the crowd favorite in this part of the globe.
Karolina Muchova's name appears in the initial entry list, but whether she will play at the tournament is doubtful. Muchova has been perturbed by a debilitating wrist injury, which has restricted her time only in the treatment room since the conclusion of the US Open.
However, Muchova' compatriot and fellow Top 10 player Marketa Vondrousova will play, as will Greece's Maria Sakkari who is part of the elite cohort.
Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko won the tournament in 2022 and will be a dangerous floater in the draw, who'll be determined to continue her recent purple patch. She is one of the earliest WTA titlists of 2024 after winning in Adelaide.
Paula Badosa and Angelique Kerber also feature having utilized the Special Ranking to earn a main draw spot. The complete entry list for the 2024 Dubai Championships is as indicated below.
