The entry list for the 2024 Cincinnati Open has been released, as the best ill compete at the WTA 1000 tournament from August 13th to 19th.
The Cincinnati Open, previously called the Western & Southern Open, is traditionally the last WTA 1000 tournament before players head to New York for the US Open, and in 2020, because of the pandemic, it was even held at Flushing Meadows.
Over the years, many different players have won the trophy, and many of them will also compete this year. Victoria Azarenka triumphed in 2013 and 2020, Madison Keys triumphed in 2019, and Caroline Garcia was the champion in 2022.
Last year, Coco Gauff lifted the trophy, and she will return to Cincinnati as the defending champion in 2024. In last year's final, she bested Karolina Muchova, who, too, will play at the event this year.
On her way to the title last year, Gauff bested her nemesis, Iga Swiatek, and the Polish player will certainly be back for revenge this year. The World No. 1 has won many tournaments in her career, but the Cincinnati Open isn't one of them, and she will try to change that.
Another player with many trophies in her cabinet is Aryna Sabalenka. The former World No. 1 is among the players who traveled to the United States early, skipping the Paris Olympics, to better prepare for the hard-court part of the season.
Elena Rybakina will also want to add her name to the list of champions, as will the likes of Qinwen Zheng, Maria Sakkari, Danielle Collins, and Jelena Ostapenko.
Joining Keys, Gauff, and Collins, plenty of American players will try to delight the home crowd. Jessica Pegula will be one of them, and Emma Navarro will try to do the same.
The field for the Cincinnati Open is full of players capable of causing an upset, as always, which should make this year's edition really exciting. The full entry list for the 2024 Cincinnati Open can be seen below.
