Some of the best players on the WTA Tour will gather in the United Arab Emirates for the 2023 Dubai Championships.
The WTA 1000 event, which runs from February 19th to 25th, offers a great chance for players to boost their rankings with WTA points, as well as earn a major share of prize money, which totals $2,788,468 in 2023.
The top favorite to take home the top prize will be Iga Swiatek, but she will be facing many challengers on the way to the title, such as Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, or Elena Rybakina.
All of them will fight for their share of prize money and points awarded at the tournament, with the top prize amounting to 900 WTA ranking points and $454,500 in prize money.
The defeated finalist will also be rewarded nicely, as they will take home 585 points and $267,690 in prize money. Those that will lose in the semi-finals of this tournament will get 350 points and $138,000.
Players will take home a prize also for losing in the first round, but while they will get $12,848 in prize money, only 1 WTA point is given for a first-round loss.
That significantly improves for a second-round exit, as players who lose at this stage will get 60 points along with $17,930 in prize money. Obviously, that keeps increasing with every round, and those who make it to round three will get 105 points and $31,650.
By winning the third-round match, players can double their prize money, as $63,350 is awarded for a quarter-final appearance along with very valuable 190 points.
The 2023 Dubai Championships is one of the events where players may need up to six wins to lift the trophy, and therefore, the prize money and points distribution is more complex. It can be viewed below.
