The 2023 Cincinnati Masters promises to be another interesting WTA 1000 tournament, and the draw just confirmed that.
After an interesting event in Montreal, another WTA 1000 tournament will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States from August 14th to 20th, and once again, the top seed at the tournament will be Iga Swiatek from Poland.
Already ahead of the Western & Southern Open, the Pole knows that she'll enter the 2023 US Open as the top seed, and like all the top eight-seeded players, she has a bye in the first round. But in the second round, she'll face a difficult test, taking on either Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Danielle Collins, who she defeated in Montreal as the draw was made.
On the other side of the draw is Aryna Sabalenka, who will want to forget an early Montreal exit. She'll have a good chance to do that already in the second round, taking on the winner of the match between Magda Linette and a qualifier.
The WTA's 'Big Three' has been ruined by Jessica Pegula, who is now the third-ranked player and also the third seed. The American will start against a qualifier or her compatriot, Bernarda Pera, in the second round of the tournament.
Elena Rybakina, who dropped to the fourth place, can't really choose who she'll play in the second round, but even if she could, it would have been a difficult decision, as it will be either former world no. 1 Karoline Pliskova or former Roland Garros champion, Jelena Ostapenko.
