The second Grand Slam of the season is inching closer, and the entry list for the 2022 Roland Garros was already released.

The French Open, also known as the Roland Garros, held its first event in 1891, and since then, we've seen 125 editions. This year's edition will be the 126th, and it will see world number one Iga Swiatek try to win her second French Open trophy.

The first time she did it, it came as a surprise, and this time around, she's a clear favorite. She's been so dominant in the past months that it is simply impossible to envision anybody else winning the title.

Perhaps Barbora Krejciova might be able to defend her trophy, but she's been out with an elbow injury for weeks now. It will be very hard to come back to top form in such a short time span, if at all.

Maria Sakkari is another player who will compete at the tournament, showing her talent in Paris before. Paula Badosa is another candidate, but the Spaniard is having shoulder issues, and the timing could not be any worse.

Regardless, there will be other candidates like Karolina Pliskova, who played in the Wimbledon final last year. She's very strong on clay as well. Another player who could be dangerous is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who played in the final last year. The Russian is very strong on the surface.

She just returned from injury, so if she can pick up some form over the next few weeks, she could be a dark horse candidate. Coco Gauff is another player who had a deep run in Paris last year, and she certainly is capable of another one.

She moves really well on the surface, and it's very hard to defeat her. Jelena Ostapenko is a former champion in Paris, and she had a tremendous start to the year. Recently, it's been a struggle, but she only needs a few wins, and she can get on a roll.

Another former champion, who will compete at the tournament is Simona Halep. The Romanian player has Patrick Mouratoglou as her coach now, and she will certainly be a candidate to win this event if she stays healthy.
