The reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova won't compete at the 2025 Australian Open after she was forced to withdraw because of an injury.

Krejcikova has been one of the most successful players on the WTA Tour in recent years. Her success initially came on the doubles court, where she used to be one of the most dominant players with her partner, Katerina Siniakova.

Krejcikova is a seven-time doubles Grand Slam winner, having completed a Golden Career Grand Slam, as she's also the 2021 Tokyo Olympics champion. On top of that, she has also three mixed doubles major titles and two from singles, meaning she has lifted a Grand Slam trophy 12 times in her life.

In 2024, she won the Wimbledon Championships, but she won't add another Grand Slam title to her collection at the start of the 2025 season, as she won't compete in Melbourne.

The Czech player hasn't appeared in any of the warm-up events, which was already worrying for her fans. But a week before the event, which starts on January 12th, Krejcikova announced her withdrawal from the Australian Open.

The former World No. 2 player is a two-time Australian Open doubles winner in doubles and a three-time mixed doubles Australian Open winner. She has won some kind of a title at the Australian Open every year from 2019 until 2023.

Last year, she reached the quarter-finals in both singles and doubles tournaments. The quarter-final appearance in singles was her career-best, matching her quarter-final from 2022.

Krejcikova confirmed that the reason for her withdrawal was a back injury, which troubled her already at the end of the 2024 season when she competed at the WTA Finals.

"Hi everyone, I wanted to share a quick update regarding my withdrawal from the Australian Open. Unfortunately, my back injury, which troubled me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed."

The Czech player is obviously working on her way back to the tennis court, but she hasn't provided any specific date for her comeback.

"It’s really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarterfinals last year. Thanks to all of you for your support. I’m working hard to get back to full health, and I can’t wait to see you on the court soon!"

The likely target for Krejcikova could be the Middle Eastern swing that starts after the Australian Open. On February 3rd, the Abu Dhabi Open kicks off the action.

After that, there are two back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments. The Qatar Open in Doha is the first WTA 1000 event, and after that, players will compete at the Dubai Championships.

Last year, Krejcikova was forced to skip both of these tournaments, and she returned only during the clay-court part of the season. She will hope to avoid that this year.
