Amanda Anisimova delivered a fiery response to Mirra Andreeva doubting her sincerity during their 2025 Miami Open clash on Sunday night.

Andreeva's recent incredible run, which saw her win the 2025 Dubai Championships and the 2025 Indian Wells Open titles, was ended by Anisimova. The 23-year-old triumphed 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 on Stadium Court.

Anisimova's win probably felt even sweeter after the 17-year-old's reaction to her calling for the physio at 3-1, 40-40 up with Andreeva serving in the third set. The American stopped playing because of a blister that made holding her racket challenging.

Andreeva did not believe Anisimova had a genuine issue, controversially saying "We all know why" the physio had been called, implying that she did it deliberately to disrupt her rhythm on serve.

The physio proved Anisimova was not being dishonest after determining that she needed immediate treatment for the issue. The skin hanging off her finger made it evident that the 2019 French Open semifinalist did not exaggerate the problem.

Despite Anisimova winning the match, she elected not to ignore the fractious moment in a pointed Instagram story post shortly after the contest concluded. In it, she showed a close-up view of her finger, proving beyond any doubt that calling for the physio was genuine.

However, the 2025 Qatar Open champion accompanied the short video with two actions that showed her disdain for Andreeva's behavior. Anisimova included a caption about her opponent's medical timeout after only three games had been played, possibly making Andreeva's subsequent complaints hypocritical.

"'We all know why' at 3-1 up was a good one coming from the 1-2 first set medical."

The caption demonstrated Anisimova's annoyance, but what she did in the final few seconds of the video made her feelings more abundantly clear. Last year's Canadian Open runner-up initially had two fingers sticking out while showing the blister.

Anisimova then put her index finger down, leaving just her middle finger up to create a gesture widely known to be an insult. The American then laughed before the Instagram story ended.

The American is usually among the most affable players on the WTA or ATP tours. That shows how irritated she was to have her integrity questioned during a high-profile match at a significant tournament.

In Andreeva's defense, many players might have reacted similarly in the heat of battle and wondered why Anisimova did not wait for the break in between games to ask for the physio, guaranteeing her opponent would not be disrupted.

The severity of Anisimova's blister meant she did nothing wrong and was correct in asking for the physio. Although both women's responses were understandable, it still led to anger before and during the match.

There will probably be additional attention when Anisimova and Andreeva next play each other. The pair winning all the WTA 1000 tournaments played so far this season meant there was much excitement before their Miami Open clash.

That will be amplified further after a high-quality battle with a heated moment. For now, Andreeva can rest and recover for the clay court season.
