Carlos Alcaraz and his foundation opened an exhibition in Murcia, Spain, displaying items tied to some of the most memorable moments in his tennis career.
In April 2024, Alcaraz launched his own foundation to help underprivileged children. Although he's still only 21 years old, the Spaniard recognizes the importance of helping others, which is why he launched his own foundation and tries to help through it.
As a young player with a young foundation, there is obviously a long road ahead of the four-time Grand Slam champion, but he's making the first steps on that road, which will serve as the building blocks for the future of his foundation.
A few weeks ago, Alcaraz announced that his foundation would hold an exhibition at Carcel Vieja in Murcia, Spain. The exhibition is called "Los pies en la tierra," which translates to "Feet on the ground." The announcement of the exhibition read:
"We are excited to present ‘Feet on the ground’, an exhibition on the importance of equal opportunities in childhood, where you can find games, questions, trophies, equipment from my professional career and some other surprises! Carcel Vieja, Murcia, Spain."
The exhibition should be officially open for two months, starting from December 14th, 2024, and running until February 15th, 2025. The official opening took part already on December 13th.
At around 7 p.m. local time, Alcaraz arrived at the Old Prison in Murcia, joined by his aunt, Beatriz Garfia, who is the president of his foundation.
During the launch of the event, Alcaraz spoke about the importance of equal opportunities for children, as he also didn't come from a wealthy family.
"We had been very clear for a long time that we wanted to create this project to help children with fewer opportunities. In my childhood we didn't have great luxuries. But the little things make the difference. We came from an average family, where we didn't lack the necessities. I was happy with what I had."
After that, he officially opened the exhibition, and with some of the visitors invited to the official launch, he looked around the exhibition, which displayed memorabilia from some of his greatest triumphs.
For example, there was a net from his 2023 Wimbledon Championships win, but there were also his shoes from his victories at the 2022 US Open, 2023 Wimbledon, and the 2024 French Open.
The exhibition also included Alcaraz's childhood pictures, including pictures with his brother Alvaro, who travels with Carlos around the world.
The memorabilia was not tied only to Alcaraz. The young Spaniard managed to get signed rackets from all of the Big Three members, and those were on display as well.
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal all signed their rackets and gave them to Alcaraz, who wanted to share them with his fans, showing them at the exhibition.
Naturally, the opening of the exhibition was very important to Alcaraz, who also delivered some signatures to some of his fans. He then also shared a series of pictures from the opening of the exhibition on his social media profiles, highlighting the importance of the event.
"Yesterday was a very special afternoon inaugurating the "Feet on the ground" exhibition. I encourage you all to see it at Carcel Vieja in Murcia from today until February 15th!"
