Mirra Andreeva is now a Top 10 player, but she admitted that she doesn't track her ranking. She did that only when she had a reason.

Andreeva is still only 17 years old, but she's already a Top 10 player. Although she could still count the weeks that she spent in the Top 10 on one hand, it seems to be only a matter of time before she becomes an established Top 10 player.

The teenager further strengthened her position in the Top 10 after reaching the semi-finals at the 2025 Indian Wells Open. She beat Elina Svitolina to set up a rematch with Iga Swiatek. The two have met in Dubai only recently.

Andreeva won the title in Dubai, which secured her a Top 10 breakthrough. But after her most recent win in Indian Wells, she admitted that she's not very aware of her ranking.

"Before, I was always checking live rankings, because before, I was playing for a dog. So after every match I play, I would check the live rankings to see if I did it. But now it's not that I don't care, but I try to not focus on that, and I try to focus on the match that I have to play. I like this."
"I would say it's pretty easy, because I don't think about the rankings or the points I have to defend if I have to, so I just don't really follow the rankings or anything, like this is a bit easier for me."

Of course, no one in the room during her post-match press conference knew what the 17-year-old Russian meant by saying she was "playing for a dog." That's why she was asked to clarify, explaining that her mother allowed her to have a dog after making it to the Top 20.

"I was supposed to be Top 20 by the end of last year, and I did it when I won against Magda Linette in Beijing. I think I was 19 or 18, and I sent the screen shot to my mom. She was like, 'No.' I'm, like, 'Yes.' That was the match when I entered the Top 20. Yeah, but we're still waiting for the dog now."

Naturally, the press conference then turned into something unexpected. Andreeva faced questions about her dog instead of her tennis. She admitted that she doesn't yet have the name for her dog ready.

"I'm still thinking. At first, I wanted to get a boy, so I came up with a couple of names for a boy, but then we decided to get a girl. There are not many options, and I'm not even sure that the options I have are going to be the actual name. So, I cannot really name any. I will have to think about it (smiling)."
