The Eisenhower Cup, a team event held the day before the tournament in Indian Wells starts, has become very popular. Fans will be able to enjoy it once again at the 2025 Indian Wells Open, with several players agreeing to participate.
First introduced in 2018, the Eisenhower Cup is a mixed doubles event that gives ATP and WTA players a rare opportunity to compete together. The United Cup is the only tournament that puts men and women playing together at the same time at its core.
The Eisenhower Cup has a fast-paced format where each match is decided in a 10-point tiebreak. That makes it fun for the players, who do not need to worry much about getting injured before the Indian Wells Open starts since they play short doubles matches.
Each year, the team event features many high-profile players, but the announced lineup so far for 2025 is particularly good. Two more unannounced teams will add to the star quality, fighting for the winners-take-it-all $200,000 prize money.
Aryna Sabalenka is the biggest name to announce her involvement. The WTA world No. 1 recently lost the Australian Open final to Madison Keys after a thrilling battle between the pair on the Rod Laver Arena.
That denied Sabalenka a third consecutive Australian Open title and a fourth Grand Slam in total. However, she has still undoubtedly established herself as the best hard-court player in the world and it required a superb performance from Keys to beat her.
Sabalenka will be on the same team as Taylor Fritz. On paper, they are probably the most formidable pairing at the event and there is guaranteed to be much powerful serving and hitting from those two.
Fritz will be busy in the days before the Eisenhower Cup and Indian Wells Open. The American ATP No. 1 will play at the Mexican Open in Acapulco until March 1st if he reaches the final before competing at an exhibition in Las Vegas on the 2nd and then the Eisenhower Cup on the 4th.
There was initially some confusion since the Las Vegas Exhibition dates were announced for March 1st and 2nd. However, Fritz subsequently clarified that only a women's match would be played on the 1st, giving him time to get to the exhibition even if he reached the final in Acapulco.
After her Australian Open title run, there will be additional excitement about seeing Keys at the Eisenhower Cup. The 29-year-old's maiden Grand Slam title was celebrated across the sport because of her popularity in the locker room.
Keys is on a team with fellow American Tommy Paul, who will share Fritz's busy schedule of going from Acapulco to Las Vegas and then to the Indian Wells Open to participate in the Eisenhower Cup.
Four other teams have been announced. Ben Shelton will play alongside Emma Navarro. That is an interesting combination of personalities between the expressive Shelton and the more laid-back Navarro.
The other three teams are Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter, a long-term couple who announced their engagement at the start of the year, fellow couple Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, and Casper Ruud and Maria Sakkari.
