Nick Kyrgios will be part of Australia's Davis Cup team once again after he received a call-up for the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers.

Although Australia used to be a tennis superpower only a few decades ago, in recent years, there weren't many players who could close up on the United States' record of Davis Cup wins.

At the moment, no country has won more Davis Cup trophies than the USA, as they have won the competition 32. However, Australia comes in close second with 28 Davis Cup trophies.

However, their last triumph came in 2003, almost two decades ago. Since 1987, the country has won the competition only twice. Both times, the team was headlined by Lleyton Hewitt, who now serves as the team captain, trying to bring former glory to his country.

Although there are many talented players who have represented Australia in the past two decades, many of them struggled with consistency. But in 2025, the country might finally find a winning formula.

Nick Kyrgios' return to the team might prove to be the deciding factor. The 29-year-old Australian has already played 17 matches for his country, out of which he won 11.

However, he hasn't played since 2019, when he bested Colombia's Alejandro Gonzalez and Belgium's Steve Darcis to help his country secure the spot in the knock-out stages of the Davis Cup Finals.

Now, Kyrgios will return to the team, as Hewitt named him in a four-man squad, which will compete at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm, Sweden, in the first-round Davis Cup Qualifiers tie again Sweden, which will be played on January 31st and February 1st.

Joining Kyrgios in the team will be current Australian No. 1 player Alex de Minaur and his good friend, Thanasi Kokkinakis. The fourth member of the team will be Jordan Thompson.

This mix of players gives Australia a great chance to succeed not only in the Qualifiers, but if they qualify, even at the Finals. Kyrgios, Kokkinakis, and Thompson are all doubles Grand Slam champions, while De Minaur is a Top 10 singles player.

Of course, Kyrgios, Thompson, and Kokkinakis are all also very talented singles players, and this team will be huge favorites over the Swedish team.

Team captain Simon Aspelin nominated Elias Ymer, Leo Borg, Andre Goransson, and Filip Bergevi. However, there should be one more member joining the Swedish team.

Mikael Ymer is currently serving an 18-month suspension for missing three doping tests, which made it impossible for Aspelin to nominate him for this tie.

But since his suspension will end before the tie is played, Aspelin recently revealed that he plans to nominate Ymer later to help the team beat Australia.

The winner of this first-round Davis Cup Qualifiers tie will then play against the winner of the tie between Chile and Belgium for a spot in the Finals.
