Jannik Sinner revealed what was his biggest regret of the 2024 season, and surprisingly, it wasn't related to his doping case.
The 23-year-old Italian had an incredibly successful 2024 season. He became the World No. 1 on the ATP Tour for the first time in his tennis career, and he also lifted his first Grand Slam title.
Not only a full year after doing that, he added another major at the US Open and ended the 2024 season as the year-end No. 1 player on the ATP Tour.
He was also an unsolvable riddle for most of the players, beating most of his opponents with ease. Still, his season was derailed by a positive doping test, which happened at the Indian Wells Open.
Since then, an annoyingly long process has started for Sinner. He was initially cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency, but the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed the case despite their planned rule change.
After the season ended, Sinner had some time to forget about that, as he enjoyed some time with friends and family, and he also traveled to Abu Dhabi for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
It was the last race of the 2024 Formula One season, and as an ambassador for Formula 1, Sinner was present at the Yas Marina Circuit, even waving the chequered flag at the end of the race.
Unfortunately for him, it was Lando Norris who crossed the finish line first, and not a Ferrari, which meant that the McLaren won the World Constructors' Championship.
As an Italian, Sinner is obviously a big Ferrari fan, and he even had some time to spend with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, as he revealed during an interview with Italian publication Corriere della Sera.
"A unique experience. We text each other, but we hadn't met in person yet. I knew a little about what to expect, I had already ridden in Fiorano but not with him. The control he has is incredible."
Leclerc wasn't the only F1 driver that Sinner met, as he also had time to chat with the newly crowned four-time World Champion, Max Verstappen, who he talked to about longevity.
"I spoke with Max a little while ago, we were commenting on some of his words. He said that he doesn't chase other drivers' records, because he also loves being with his family."
"We are athletes, but we are also people: friends and family are the most important things. I try to do the best I can in tennis, starting tomorrow, I will resume training in Dubai, but I think like him."
During the interview, Sinner was also asked about his tennis season, and he named his biggest regret. Surprisingly, it wasn't his positive doping test, but instead, his quarter-final loss to Daniil Medvedev at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
"If I look back, Wimbledon is the tournament where I left the most regrets. I had played very well until the match with Medvedev… It went like this, our sport is unpredictable. For next year we’ll see: no one knows the future."
