Coco Gauff doesn't have to deal only with her opponents in mixed doubles at the 2025 United Cup, but also with her partner's very chatty personality.

The 20-year-old American player chose a different approach to the start of her 2025 season. While she previously competed at the WTA 250 event in Auckland, which she won in 2023 and 2024, she chose to play at the United Cup in 2025.

Team environment is one of the reasons why she chose to play at this team competition, and the teammate that she gets to spend the most time with is American ATP No. 1 player Taylor Fritz.

The two have already played together in the mixed doubles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and that experience also motivated Gauff to join forces with Fritz again.

Their first United Cup tie together was a proper battle, even though it looked really promising initially. Gauff easily won her match against Leylah Fernandez, but since Fritz lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime, both teams had to battle for the win in the mixed doubles match.

Team USA won that mixed doubles match, and after their win, they delivered a really funny on-court interview. Gauff started by expressing her delight with how they played.

"Oh yeah, I'm really happy with how we played today in the mixed [doubles]. I felt like we got better as the match went, and we had a lot of chances, and finally, we were able to stick them when it mattered."

For Fritz, the mixed doubles win was also important, as he previously lost his singles match after leading 6-4, 5-3. That's why he needed the mixed doubles win and thanked Gauff for carrying the team.

"Yeah, it's big. After losing my singles match, the way I lost my singles match, it would have been really tough to go home today with a mixed doubles loss as well, so thank you, Coco, for carrying the team today."

The interviewer then wanted to point out one very noticeable thing. Fritz likes to talk a lot on the doubles court, and while the question was still only being asked, Gauff quickly intervened, saying: "Yeah, he is!"

That response immediately showed that Gauff was very aware of Fritz's chatty personality, but she also praised him, as she thought that his input was very valuable.

"He talks a lot. I'm not used to it, but after playing at the Olympics I was mentally prepared for it and yeah, he made some good calls so I trust his opinion. I'm always asking him what he thinks, so I trust it a lot. I feel like he sees the game really well, so I'm learning from him out here."

Fritz explained himself, saying that he has an analytical mind and likes to share what he sees, which ultimately helped the team beat Canada.

"As long as she's ready for it, I'm an extremely analytical person on the court. I'm seeing all these things, and I'll just say it. So, I don't shut up, so I hope she can deal with it."
