Carlos Alcaraz will entertain more fans during the off-season at another announced exhibition, but that decision adds to the accusations of hypocrisy against the Spaniard.
The six-time Grand Slam champion has consistently mentioned how lengthy and grueling the ATP calendar is, and that he does not get much time at home in Spain with his family and friends to unwind.
Alcaraz is not the only player who believes this. Iga Swiatek, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, and Jessica Pegula also think the season is too lengthy and that there should be fewer mandatory tournaments.
Although Alcaraz has a good relationship with Jannik Sinner, his biggest rival, the Italian does share the same opinion. He said players do not have to compete every week, but some thought that was out of touch and not understanding enough to lower-ranked players.
The Spaniard's stated opinion led some to question why he participated in two exhibitions during the 2024 off-season: one against Ben Shelton at Madison Square Garden in New York and one against Frances Tiafoe in Charlotte.
Rather than reversing course and ensuring he gets more time off than last year, Alcaraz is now scheduled to play in the same number of exhibitions as 2024, and they will both be held in the U.S. again.
On December 7th, Alcaraz will again face Tiafoe, this time at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Emma Raducanu and two-time Grand Slam runner-up Amanda Anisimova are also scheduled to play at the same event.
The second exhibition will feature Alcaraz taking on Joao Fonseca, a rising 19-year-old star, at the LoanDepot Park in Miami. The Brazilian is not yet at Alcaraz's or Sinner's level, but many believe he has the potential to become a multiple-time Grand Slam winner.
Although an exhibition is not the same as a competitive match, it still provides Fonseca with an opportunity to test himself against the world No. 1, and for Alcaraz to get a feel for the Brazilian's game.
The exhibition in Miami will also have another match between Raducanu and Anisimova. Alcaraz being at the same event as the Briton on two consecutive days could reignite the rumors about them.

Alcaraz and Raducanu's mixed doubles partnership sparked dating speculation

The 2025 US Open's new mixed doubles format, held during fan week, led to Alcaraz and Raducanu being among the pairs after the two-time Wimbledon winner specifically asked to play with her.
Raducanu was also seen in the stands watching Alcaraz at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships and the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, but she insisted during a Wimbledon press conference that they were just good friends.
Alcaraz and Raducanu lost in the opening round of the US Open mixed doubles against Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper. They seemed to enjoy being on court together despite being outclassed by their impressive opponents.
In an episode of his podcast at the 2025 Laver Cup, former US Open men's singles champion Andy Roddick claimed that Alcaraz and Raducanu just wanted to flirt during the match and were not concerned about winning or losing.
