Preparations for the 2026 Laver Cup in London have already begun, with Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz committing to the team event.
Alcaraz made his Laver Cup debut in Berlin in 2024. That edition is memorable for being John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg's final year as captains of Team World and Team Europe, respectively. Borg has since opened up about his drug issues.
The Spaniard played a pivotal role in Team Europe's success in 2024. He lost his opening match alongside Alexander Zverev in the doubles, but responded with a singles victory against Ben Shelton.
Alcaraz and Casper Ruud won a doubles match together before the 22-year-old overcame Taylor Fritz in the deciding contest to seal a 13-11 triumph for Team World. That prevented a third consecutive loss for the Europeans.
In the 2025 edition, Fritz got his revenge against Alcaraz. Despite the ATP world No. 1 winning his other three matches, two in doubles, he could not prevent Team Europe from slipping to a 9-15 defeat in San Francisco.
The Laver Cup organizers, including Roger Federer, will be relieved that tennis's most popular star has committed to 2026's London iteration. Alcaraz outlined his excitement for the event scheduled from September 25th to 27th.
"To play at The O2 in London is going to be amazing. Having the chance to be in a team with players that normally I’m fighting against during the year is really unique and what makes me keep wanting to play Laver Cup every year. Hopefully we’ll have the crowd behind us and I’m really motivated to help Team Europe win the Laver Cup back."
After beating Alcaraz, Fritz also won the deciding singles match against Alexander Zverev at this year's edition. The American is looking forward to enjoying the unique environment in which the Laver Cup is played once again.
"Laver Cup is such an exciting week for me. I love the team atmosphere, the energy you get playing these matches, when you’re playing for more than yourself is incredible. I’m excited to spend another week with Team World and we’ll be there with the goal to win."

The 2026 Laver Cup will return to the scene of Roger Federer's retirement

Although every edition of the Laver Cup receives much attention, no future year will ever match the scrutiny that surrounded 2022 at the 02 Arena in London. It was Roger Federer's final professional appearance before ending his remarkable career.
Because of the knee injury that forced his retirement, Federer could only play one doubles match. However, his playing alongside long-time rival and friend Rafael Nadal made it a terrific send-off.
Federer and Nadal lost a thrilling battle against Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock after holding a match point. Although a victory would have made it perfect, how close the veterans came after Federer had been away from the court for over a year was incredible.
The 2026 Laver Cup will be played at the same venue. Federer always attends the tournament, and it will undoubtedly bring back emotional memories of his last professional appearance.
