Carlos Alcaraz moved up the
ATP Rankings thanks to his nearly flawless win at the 2025
Italian Open.
Alcaraz is currently the best clay-court player on the ATP Tour, and if there were any doubts about it, he removed them all at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome. The Spaniard beat all of his opponents, including the World No. 1 player,
Jannik Sinner, to lift the title at the Italian Open.
Since Alcaraz didn't compete in Rome last year, he didn't defend any points, and that means that all of the 1,000 points for winning the ATP Masters 1000 title were added to his total. The four-time Grand Slam champion now has 8,850 points to his name, and that moved him up to the World No. 2 position.
The 22-year-old could move up because
Alexander Zverev, who was the No. 2 player prior to the tournament, was in an exactly opposite situation. He was the defending champion in Rome, but
his event didn't go well at all.
Zverev lost 800 out of his 1,000 points, which means he fell to the World No. 3 position with 7,285 points. Both Alcaraz and Zverev are still behind Sinner, but the Italian's lead over Alcaraz decreased. The World No. 1 player now has 10,380 points.
There weren't any changes in the four positions behind the leading trio.
Taylor Fritz remained fourth,
Jack Draper is still fifth,
Novak Djokovic holds the World No. 6 position, and
Casper Ruud is seventh in the ATP Rankings.
These four players, however, are being chased down by
Lorenzo Musetti. The 23-year-old Italian made his Top 10 debut only recently, but he's already ranked eighth in the world with 3,860 points, which is only 45 points behind Ruud. Musetti moved up by one position in the latest ATP Rankings.
When someone moves up, of course, someone else has to move in the opposite direction, and that was
Alex de Minaur. The Australian player dropped to the World No. 9 position with 3,635 points.
Holger Rune is the last player in the Top 10 with 3,440 points.
Since there weren't any players who would have surprising runs in Rome, there were also no significant movements outside of the Top 10. The biggest mover in the Top 100 was
Alexander Bublik, who moved up by 25 positions to the World No. 51 rank thanks to his win at the ATP Challenger event in Torino.
18-year-old prodigy
Joao Fonseca kept his World No. 65 position, but some players fell down the rankings. For example, Alejandro Tabilo lost 19 positions, falling to the World No. 61 spot, while
Zhizhen Zhang, who last played in Indian Wells, fell by 26 places to the World No. 81 position.
