Carlos Alcaraz wants yet another Grand Slam title in his collection, and he's not afraid to admit that his eyes are set on the 2025 Australian Open.
The young Spaniard is already a four-time Grand Slam champion. He started his collection of major trophies in 2022 when he won the US Open. Last year, he added another Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, and this year, his collection grew by two more trophies.
However, one of those was not a "new" one, as he added another Wimbledon title shortly after winning his maiden Roland Garros trophy. With three out of four majors in his cabinet, the 21-year-old player now misses only one more to complete the collection.
Not many players managed to complete the Career Grand Slam in tennis. In the long history of the sport, only ten players female players achieved the feat and only eight male players won all four majors in singles.
In the 21st century, only three players did it, and their names must not be introduced. It was the legendary Big Three of Roger Federer, who did it first, Rafael Nadal, who followed, and Novak Djokovic, who completed the Career Grand Slam most times, having won each major at least three times.
Before them, only two more players did it in the Open Era: legendary Rod Laver, who is the only one that completed the Calendar Grand Slam (having won not just all four but in the same calendar year), and Andre Agassi.
Alcaraz would want to add his name to that legendary list of players, and his next chance will come at the upcoming Grand Slam tournament, which is the Australian Open.
He spoke about this ahead of The Garden Cup, which was an exhibition event held at the Madison Square Garden in New York, United States, with the young Spaniard taking on Ben Shelton.
"I'm sure I'll be the Australian champion sooner or later. Hopefully, it will be this year. For m,e it is very important to complete the Career Grand Slam."
As always, Alcaraz's statements didn't lack boldness, as the four-time major winner is very confident in his qualities. He showed it when he doubled down on his comments after beating Shelton in The Garden Cup.
Immediately after his win, he talked to the Tennis Channel, once again admitting that winning the Australian Open in 2025 is one of his main goals for the upcoming season.
"The only Grand Slam that I miss is Australian Open. So I go for it. Hopefully in 2025, I’ll make it, you know, this big and really important goal for me to come into the season. But it’s always difficult to approach a Grand Slam."
"A lot of players who’re working really really hard to make it but you know, I have to put big goals on myself, on my back and hopefully make in 2025."
Ahead of the 2025 Australian Open, he won't play any ATP tournaments, but like Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, he signed to play charity matches ahead of the Australian Open.
