The draw for the 2025 Barcelona Open has been released, and it promises to be another exciting edition of this ATP 500 tournament.
Traditionally, the Barcelona Open is one of the most star-studded ATP 500 tournaments on the calendar. It has a perfect spot, just ahead of the Madrid Open, which is played in the same country, making it easy for tennis players to travel from one tournament venue to the other.
In 2025, the Barcelona Open will be held from April 14th until 20th, alongside the Munich Open, which was promoted to an ATP 500 event this year.
The fans in Barcelona will be happy to know that their biggest star and two-time Barcelona Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, will compete at the event this year, after being forced to miss last year's edition.
After previously being held with a 48-player draw since 2013, the Barcelona Open was reduced to a 32-player draw this year, which will make the competition so much tougher for everyone, as there are no first-round byes anymore.
Alcaraz will start against a qualifier in the opening round, but already in the second round, the young Spaniard can play against the winner of the match between Tomas Machac and Frances Tiafoe.
On the opposite side of the draw is the second-seeded Casper Ruud, who, too, will start against one of the qualifiers. Should he pass the test, the Norwegian would take on either the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or another qualifier.
Tennis fans in Scandinavia could enjoy an all-Scandinavian quarter-final match, as the sixth-seeded Holger Rune is in Ruud's quarter. The Danish player will start against Albert Ramos in the first round.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will also want to prove his clay-court qualities, and he will have a chance to do that against a player who doesn't like the high-bouncing surface so much. Tsitsipas' first-round opponent will be Reilly Opelka.
The seventh-seeded Arthur Fils is in their quarter. The Frenchman will start against Pablo Carreno Busta, and he will try to follow up on his good results from the Monte-Carlo Masters.
The draw for the Barcelona Open includes many other great first-round matches and potential second-round matchups. The champion will be crowned on April 20th.
