The prize money details for the 2025 Australian Open were released, and players will compete for nearly A$100 million in prize money.
The first Grand Slam tournament of the year also means a great chance for players to earn some valuable ranking points and prize money. In 2025, a total of A$96.5 million ($60 million) will be distributed across all categories at the Australian Open.
Last year, the winner of the major in Melbourne took home A$3,150,000. In the men's singles, that was Jannik Sinner, while Aryna Sabalenka won her second consecutive title in the women's singles.
This year, both of them will return as defending champions, and if they succeed in defending the title, they will earn significantly more, as the winners will take home A$3,500,000 along with 2,000 rankings points.
The increase in prize money can be observed across every round. In 2025, players will earn approximately 10% more for every round reached compared to 2024.
The 10-time champion, Novak Djokovic, will be among the favorites in Melbourne, as will be the likes of Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Elena Rybakina in the women's draw.
Carlos Alcaraz will be on a mission to complete a Career Grand Slam, and he will also be among the favorites in the men's draw, with the likes of Sinner, Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev.
They will all fight for the top prize, but should any of them lose in the final round, the prize money and points on offer will be sufficient to forget the final loss. The runners-up in 2025 will get A$1,900,000 and 1,300 ranking points.
While the ranking points are the same for the winner and the runner-up, they start to differ from the semi-final rounds. The losing semi-finalists will earn A$1,100,000, and while men will receive 800 ATP ranking points, women will go home with 780 WTA ranking points.
The only other similarity is in the first round of the tournament, as all 64 players that lose in the first round in both draws will earn A$132,000 and also 10 ranking points.
For reaching the second round, men will receive 50 ranking points, while women will get 70 points. Both will be awarded with A$200,000. The third round awards 100 (ATP) or 130 (WTA) points and A$290,000.
Making it to the second week of a Grand Slam is a significant achievement for many. In 2025, the reward for reaching the fourth round also significantly increases. Players that reach this stage will get A$420,000 and 200 (ATP) or 240 (WTA) points.
The losing quarter-finalists at the 2025 Australian Open will receive A$665,000 in prize money and 400 ranking points in the men's singles or 430 in the women's tournament.
Regardless of which round a player reaches, the Grand Slams reward the players the most, and that is reflected in the prize money and points distribution for the 2025 Australian Open.
