Two-time Munich Open champion Alexander Zverev is out of the event after losing to Holger Rune, who baited him into an error-fest at the ATP 250 tournament in the German city.

The German player signed up for the tournament in his home country, which is always a big motivation for players, as they want to show their qualities to the local crowd. However, that wasn't the case for Zverev, as he was overpowered by a young player.

Rune was very motivated and had a bounce in his step, much more than Zverev. The Danish player jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, attacking Zverev, who tried to be aggressive, which seems like a new mentality on clay, but it did not work too well as he committed far too many mistakes.

The Dane himself played very bold, and a couple of mistakes gave Zverev the break back 4-3, but the German lost it again. That gave Rune enough of an advantage to cruise towards the first-set win, taking it 6-3.

The second set did not go much better for Zverev. He was once again playing below his level, making cheap mistakes all across the court. Rune had his brilliant moments, frustrating his opponent with drop shots as the German stood far back from the baseline.

In the second set, Rune managed to increase the level even further, breaking his opponent's serve two more time to win the match 6-3, 6-2, and advance to the next round of the 2022 Munich Open, also called the BMW Open, as the winner of the tournament receives a brand new car from the German manufacturer.

The Danish player was not afraid of the top seed, and he thoroughly outplayed him from the baseline. It was another disappointing result for Zverev, but he will get to move earlier to the Madrid Open, where he triumphed two times in his career before, including last year.
