Frances Tiafoe admitted that he made winning a habit after his most recent success on the ATP Tour.

Tiafoe will play in the semi-finals of the 2022 Japan Open, and thanks to his run in Tokyo, he will reach his new career-high ranking on Monday. The American player will now be ranked at least 17th in the world.

He beat Miomir Kecmanovic in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, and after the match, he acknowledged that winning has become more of a habit for him.

Tiafoe stunned Rafael Nadal at the US Open this year, and he previously admitted that that win highly motivated him. He used to struggle with motivation before, but now, winning is a habit for him.

"Beating the guys you are supposed to beat. That's always been my Achilles heel. Winning is more of a habit now - I want more and more. I don't get complacent after winning a couple of matches. I wanna really go deep and play on a lot of Sundays. I'm happy but we got more work to do."

Tiafoe spoke about his win also during his post-match press conference. The American player knew his opponent's level was high, which is why he was happy to win in two sets.

"I was really solid from the start. I was moving really well, I hit the ball well from the back of the court. I made it really tough for Miomir today. He played some great tennis. I was lucky enough to get it done in straight sets. Performances like this are big."

Tiafoe was also told that he would reach his new career high. He was happy about it, as it reflects the hard work he put into his tennis recently.

"It's cool. My ranking's going in the right direction... The work's finally paying off. To be brutally honest, my ranking is cool and everything, but I just want to win the biggest titles in the world. Wherever my ranking sits is great, but I know what I'm capable of."
