Venus Williams has recently opened up about her relationships with her sister, Serena Williams.
Serena and Venus Williams grew up together on the tennis courts. Venus is the older sister, and even though she wasn't the first of the two to win the first Grand Slam title, she was the more successful player early on.
By the end of the 2001 season, Venus already had four major trophies in her cabinet, while her sister had only one. However, over the years, Serena overtook her sister, and she became arguably the greatest female tennis player of all time.
The two met in multiple singles Grand Slam finals, and they have also won 14 Grand Slam doubles trophies together. The Williams sisters have a great relationship, and Venus talked about it in a recent interview with Glamour Magazine.
"Yeah, Serena and I are very co-dependent. We do the same thing that the other one does. It just goes on and on. It’s an endless cycle – even when we were around eight years old and going like, 'I want to do it, too!'"
Venus enjoys spending time with her sister Serena, also because of how well the 23-time Grand Slam champion does on the tennis courts. Venus loves to see her sister succeed.
"I love seeing people do great. I don’t like to see anyone fail. I like to see my opponents lose against me, but other than that, I like to ride that energy that other people bring with success."
Despite being the older sister, Venus isn't afraid to admit that her younger sister taught her a lot. The respect the two share is palpable from each word they say about each other.
"Serena has taught me so much, and there’s so much you can learn just from being around greatness, and that’s what she is – the greatest ever."
