There has been a whirlwind of activity in Holger Rune's 2024 season, but one thing that will not be changing is his clothing sponsor.

On Friday evening, there was a social media rumor from a prominent tennis account on X alleging that Rune's partnership with Nike had run its course. Moreover, the Dane should have been looking for a new match kit sponsor for the upcoming US Open.

Rune endorses Nike, which manufactures his complete tennis gear, including his cap, wristbands, shirt, shorts, and shoes. Details of when their partnership began are confidential.

However, it is believed that he endorsed the company from the junior circuit when he emerged as a promising young talent. Nike is one of the leading sportswear brands in the world and has an eye for some of the rising stars in tennis, usually tying them to a long-term contract.

This has already happened in recent months, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner signing multi-million dollar deals. Rune's success has not quite been on the same velocity as the two men who are above him in the rankings, but he is arguably the best Danish male player in ATP history at only 21.

He was ranked as high as World No. 4 just last summer when he made back-to-back quarterfinals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. This is the highest peak by an ATP player from his country.

"Been speaking with a few insiders and looks like Holger Rune is done with Nike. Look for a new sponsor to debut at the US Open potentially."
A tweet from Tennis Connected on X (formerly Twitter)

It certainly looked like Rune was very active on the platform when the tweet was posted because he replied within an hour to refute the claims as untrue, joking that the "insiders" did not diligently carry out their jobs. He affirmed his commitment to Nike and said that he would not change his outfit sponsor.

"Don’t know who these insiders are but they are not very good at their job I can tell you that . I am very happy with my Nike collaboration."
Rune fired back at rumors suggesting he was leaving Nike

The source of the original tweet had no place to hide, as fans flocked to the replies to laud Rune's quickness to refute the rumors and accuse the account of distracting him. Some of the tweets from Tennis Connected are included below following the ATP star's response.

"Good to know. I will tell them."
"We are a fan of Holgers. Not here to distract him from anything. Just stating an opinion based on a conversation."
"Not really chief. We reported that Fritz was going to BOSS long before it happened and Nadal’s injury status along the way the last year. We said this is “not confirmed”. No disconnect here."

Rune is currently competing at the 2024 Canadian Open in Montreal, where he navigated his way into the round of 16 without dropping a set. He will play Germany's Alexander Zverev for the second time this season in a rematch of their five-set battle at the French Open.
