Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa revealed how they plan to spend the $250,000 that they earned during the Mixed Madness at the 2024 US Open.
The last Grand Slam of the season has yet to officially start, and the tennis' most famous couple already has a trophy to their names. Tsitsipas and Badosa proved the best during an exhibition event, Mixed Madness, with 'Tsitsidosa' winning the title at the event together.
First, the two bested home duo of Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton, before beating another all-American team of Amanada Anisimova and Taylor Fritz in the final of the competition.
It was a great night for the two, who had already teamed up in a mixed doubles exhibition before, losing in the final of the 2024 Eisenhower Cup at Indian Wells.
This time around, they managed to go one step further, and it was a great night for the couple, as the Greek player said it was probably the best possible date night for them.
After the triumph, which also earned them $250,000, the two talked to the fans at the packed Arthur Ashe Stadium, describing the experience of playing together again.
According to the World No. 11 player on the ATP Tour, waiting for another team-up with his girlfriend was 'worth the wait' as they planned another collaboration on the court for some time.
"It was... It was worth the wait. We’ve been planning this for a very long time and I’m super glad we made it happen. We had a bitter ending to it last time in Indian Wells where we got eliminated in the final."
"Super grateful that we were able to produce some good tennis, but also in combination with having fun. Getting to share that with that special person that you’ll spend most of your life with, yeah, what a great night."
Badosa, former World No. 2 on the WTA Tour, on the other hand, had some good news to share with the fans at Flushing Meadows, revealing that they will team up also for the real mixed doubles tournament at the 2024 US Open.
"Well, I have good news, I think we're going to see each other next week. We're planning to play the mixed doubles, so hopefully you guys come and cheer for us, and we can have the same result as tonight."
After that, the two were asked what they plan to do with the $250,000 prize they received for their triumph. Tsitsipas first joked that all would go to his girlfriend before further joking that they would use it for their kid's school.
"All the pay check. We gotta use it for the kid's school."
Obviously, everything was said in a lighthearted way, and it certainly wouldn't be surprising if the Spanish-Greek duo donated the funds won at the event to a charity.
After the event, they will focus on their singles draws at the 2024 US Open, which starts on Monday, August 26th, 2024.
