Alexander Zverev is unsure whether he'll make it back in time for the US Open but he certainly hopes to be back for the Davis Cup.

While there are growing questions over when the German will be back gracing the courts of the ATP Tour, he has hopes for a return in time for the ITF's Davis Cup.

After suffering a hammer blow in his French Open semi-final against Rafa Nadal, Alexander Zverev has been working all hours to try and get back on form for a possible return in time for the US Open.

With doubts growing over his current state following his withdrawal from the key Masters 1000 warm-up event in Cincinnati, tennis fans have been left unsure as to whether he will be fit enough to come straight back into action at the US Open.

If the New York slam does prove to be a week or two too premature for the German, he has offered a glimmer of hope what with the Davis Cup on the horizon.

An important event for Zverev, he may be targeting this as a potential return to action, with him recently saying:

“We are a strong team. If we can play with our best players, we can go deep and even win the Davis Cup. There is nothing better than playing in front of a packed home stadium."

What with its team nature, Zverev has long been a fan of the format of the event. Representing his country with compatriots, playing in front of more-than-usual passionate fans is something which appeals to him:

“I am a big fan of team events. Usually, tennis is an individual sport, but I know from a lot of colleagues that they really look forward to the Davis Cup week each year. We can finally spend some time together. We eat together, practise together and have fun – this is all part of it.”
