There are many names lavished on the city of Paris, but one that probably stands out is the City of Records.
One man synonymous with the city is Rafael Nadal, who has won Roland Garros, the Grand Slam clay court tennis tournament, a staggering 14 times. And across the city, another man has charted some highly impressive numbers in Paris-Bercy, the famous stop of indoor hard-court tennis on the ATP Tour.
That other man is Novak Djokovic, winner of the Paris Masters a record six times. The Serbian star will look to extend his own record this week, where he is the overwhelming favorite to win his sixth title of another breathtaking season.
In addition to six titles in Bercy, Djokovic is also the holder of the most final appearances at the tournament with eight. He was a runner-up on two occasions, in 2018 (lost to Karen Khachanov) and most recently last year (lost to Holger Rune).
Djokovic's most fruitful period at the Paris Masters was between 2013 and 2015, where he won three straight titles against David Ferrer, Milos Raonic, and Andy Murray, doing so without the loss of a set. In fact, no other player has made three consecutive finals, let alone win three titles on the trot in Bercy.
He has played the most matches (54) at the last Masters 1000 tournament and won an unmatched 45 times. Djokovic will get the chance to add to those numbers this week, starting with a second-round match against Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry on Wednesday.
Since his debut at the tournament in 2005, Djokovic has gone on to play at the Paris Masters 16 times. He'll make it 17 this year, the most of any player. His 17-match winning streak between 2013 and 2016 (which ended with a quarterfinal defeat to Marin Cilic) is the longest win streak at the event.
