The US Davis Cup Team will want to qualify for the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, but they must do it without their top three players.
To play in the Davis Cup Finals, teams first need to play in the Qualifiers, and the date for that tournament usually isn't ideal, as it's held right after the fourth Grand Slam of the season - the US Open.
That being the home major for the American players, it's not a surprise that most of them want to peak at Flushing Meadows, and that may be one of the reasons why some are also not part of the US Davis Cup Team for the 2024 Davis Cup Qualifiers.
The most successful Davis Cup team in history will be searching for their 33rd triumph at the competition and first since 2007, when they beat Russia in the final of the competition, with brothers Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan clinching the final point.
Now, they will play Qualifiers at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China, from September 10th to 15th, taking on Chile, Slovakia, and Germany, and it will be Bob Bryan, who will also serve as the Team Captain for the United States.
The 46-year-old nominated Sebastian Korda, Marcos Giron, Brandon Nakashima, and doubles specialists Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.
That means that all three highest-ranked American players, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton, who also won't take part in the 2024 Olympic Games, won't be part of the Qualifiers.
On top of that, also the country's fifth highest-ranked player on the ATP Tour, Frances Tiafoe, won't be part of the team, meaning the American team will travel to China with their fourth, sixth, and seventh highest-ranked singles players in what may become a mammoth task for them to qualify for the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, which will be held from November 19th to 24th at the Palacio Deportes Martín Carpena in Malaga, Spain.
