'Stop Talking About When He's Going To Retire': Judy Murray On Son Andy

by Alfredo Bassanelli

Judy Murray wants people to stop talking about the eventual retirement of her son Andy Murray as he still has plenty to give to the ATP Tour.

Andy Murray has given a lot to the sport of tennis but it seems like many people want to see him gone from it. Ever since Murray staged a comeback, the Brit's name has been dragged through the papers with the word retirement never too far away.

It's been a rather tiring discussion for Murray who had to shut down questions about his retirement many times in the past. Others pointed out that Murray has no reason to retire as he's still competitive and is playing pretty well. His mother Judy Murray also called on people to stop talking about his retirement.

I think the fact that he’s still competing, still playing – I mean when he got the hip injury in 2017 he was No1 in the world, he was playing the best tennis of his life and just so unlucky because it took a long time for him to find the right way to address that injury and then to recover from it, rehab from it, took a long, long time.

The main point of Murray playing tennis is the fact that he's still playing. Many would have walked away from it completely but the passion for the game is still burning strong. Runs like the one he had in Australia earlier this year are very inspiring and that's the main point.

The longer he's doing it the more inspiring it is and he'll stop on his own terms. That's what Judy wants to do as well; for people to leave him to do what he does best - play tennis.

And I think the fact that he’s still playing shows his passion for the game, his love of competition and yeah… let’s just let him play for as long as he wants to play and stop talking about when he’s going to retire. Just leave him to do what he does best.

His Wimbledon draw is a rather tough one. He hoped to avoid that but unfortunately fell short of becoming a seed at the event. Compatriot Ryan Peniston in round one and then either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Dominic Thiem in the second round.
