Stefanos Tsitsipas is picking up form at the 2024 Mexican Open in Acapulco, but will he be able to overcome defending champion Alex de Minaur?
Tsitsipas hasn't had a spectacular year so far, but the Greek player is looking better and better with every match he plays. Finding a good level before the Sunshine Double would be crucial, and he's doing just that.
We'll see just how much of his usual level Tsitsipas has when he takes on a really strong de Minaur. The Australian won the trophy in Acapulco last year and looks quite comfortable once more.
The conditions suit his style of play, but it's the same for the Greek, who already has a trophy from Mexico in his cabinet.
Head-to-head:
This will be the eleventh ATP Tour-level match these two play. There have been a lot of them over the years, and it's been pretty one-sided so far. Tsitsipas has yet to lose a single match against de Minaur, though the Australian managed to win a set on occasion.
We saw only two matches in 2023, and Tsitsipas won both in straight sets. One of those was actually in Los Cabos and was a final, and still Tsitsipas won easily. It's interesting to see these matchup problems unfold in real time, so is it finally time for the first win?

Prediction:
I think so because several things make me think that. I haven't seen too many dominant displays from de Minaur in the past, but that precisely happened last year in Acapulco. He destroyed everybody en route to the trophy, and he's even better this year.
I don't know if I can say the same thing for Tsitsipas. He has been winning matches, but he's also looked very beatable. I'd argue they are on a similar level right now, and I think Demon will finally get one.
Prediction: Alex de Minaur to win in three sets.
