Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Aleksandar Kovacevic: 2024 Los Cabos Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas started really well at the Los Cabos Open, and now he will take on Aleksandar Kovacevic.

The only trophy Tsitsipas won last year was in Los Cabos, and he started his title defense this year with a pretty great win as well. The ATP 250 event was moved early in the season as opposed to last year, but that didn't bother the Greek, who bested Aleksandar Vukic 6-3, 6-0.

Tsitsipas loves to play in Mexico and feels pretty great on the courts there. It was clear from his performance but also his track record in the country, which includes a doubles trophy and singles final as well. Kovacevic will be a trickier opponent because he's done well here as well.

Rinky Hijikata gave him some trouble, but generally, the American was able to overcome that match and will hope to start a winning streak against Tsitsipas.

Head-to-head:

They haven't played so far on the ATP Tour, which makes this their first match. Kovacevic generally prefers a quicker court because he can utilize his serve a bit better, but he doesn't mind any type of hard court.

He's seen and played on most of them. Tsitsipas generally does a bit better on the slower courts because they leave him less exposed to some of the big hitters in the game.

He's comfortable in slower conditions and is fit enough to play long and grueling rallies. That's one way he can win this match.

Prediction:

I don't think Kovacevic is good enough to overpower Tsitsipas in the rallies, and the Greek is certainly good enough to outlast the American in most rallies.

With the serve in hand, I think that will be enough to win the match against a player who realistically hasn't played that much on the ATP Tour.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in two sets.
