Stefanos Tsitsipas will make his debut at the Stuttgart Open next week as part of his preparation for the third Grand Slam of the season at Wimbledon.

The Stuttgart Open is one of two grass-court tournaments set to take place from June 6th to 12th. It will run in the same week as the Libema Open, with main draw action kicking off a day after the men's final at Roland Garros.

A number of top players will be playing in Stuttgart, including 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz, Denis Shapovalov, and Andy Murray. The tournament will also mark the return to tennis for mercurial Australian Nick Kyrgios.

Tsitsipas will arrive in the German city on the back of a shock fourth-round exit at the French Open. Having finished as runner-up at the clay-court major this past year, the Greek was overpowered by the fast-footed young Dane in four sets.

He is currently 34-11 for the year at all levels, having captured his second ATP Masters 1000 crown in Monte Carlo in April. Tsitsipas will make his debut at the ATP 250 event in Stuttgart.

The tournament has announced on its official Twitter page that the man from Athens has taken a late wild card into the main draw. Therefore, he is the highest-ranked player in the field and will be the top seed.

"Let’s make his first time in #Stuttgart special! We are excited to announce that @steftsitsipas gets a wildcard and is going to play at the #BOSSOPEN this year."

The former World No. 3 has not played much grass tennis over the years losing in the opening rounds of Wimbledon in his past two appearances. In fact, since 2020, he has only played just one match on grass, and which was his first-round defeat to Frances Tiafoe at last year's Wimbledon.

He has a career record of 14-15 on the lawns but he is determined to finally improve his skillset on it. It will mostly come with the number of matches as he plays on the surface.
